Our carbon farming seminar in Darfield
Our three carbon farming seminars in Glenavy, Ashburton and Darfield found broad interest among the Canterbury farming and agribusiness community. Over 170 participants came along to our events in Glenavy, Ashburton and Darfield held in the last week of May. We brought in experts from diverse backgrounds, including a greenhouse gas economist, consultants and farmers, who generously shared their comprehensive knowledge, experience and personal stories regarding the opportunities and risks of carbon farming practices.
The key message from our experts was that carbon farming presents a real opportunity for farmers to increase and diversify revenue streams, enhance biodiversity and environmental and recreational farm values, reduce New Zealand’s overall greenhouse gas emissions profile and contribute to the national reduction targets. It is recommended to seek expert advice when entering the Emissions Trading Scheme and obtaining grants and funding for carbon farming projects to make the right long-term decisions for your business.
The Canterbury Mayoral Forum funded these seminars through the Canterbury Regional Economic Development Strategy that contributes to improving productivity and high-value manufacturing projects across the Canterbury Region.
